Alexander Earl Lloyd, better known by the stage name A’Lex, is an American rapper/singer based in Atlanta, Georgia.

A’Lex was born on August 24, 1990 in Decatur, Ga to a mother and father who were both in the music industry. His mother a gospel singer and his father a band manager. Both parents play highly influential roles in his life and have always supported him with his musical endeavors. His stage name is derived from his birth name, Alexander. His friends  simply call him Alex, so A’Lex is a cool twist that was put to the name when he was 19. He includes artists such as Andre 3000, T.I, Mase, and Robin Thicke among his influences.

The Interview:

Vanie: Tell the people who you are!

A’lex: I’m A’Lex from Atlanta, GA man. Doing my thing as an R&B artist and song writer; we’re making it happen.

V. Are you a song writer first?

A. I’m a song writer first right now.  Being a song writer, it takes a whole lot of money and a whole lot of different things that’s not available to me right now. Also, for song writers there’s a whole lot more opportunity. You know, I’m a strong believer of law of attraction, I been talking about song writing and it’s been coming to me.

V. How long have you been writing music?

A. About three years now. I started when I left high school, I was eight-teen, I’m twenty-one now. Personally I think my thing is R&B and soulful R&B and music soul child type music.  But other people tell me I’m more versatile. I been trying different things and discovering that I had more to my craft than I thought .

V. What are your future plans for your music??

A. I can’t tell you where my sound is going to go; all I can tell you is that I will be the best at everything I do right now. You know continue doing that and not being scared and not holding back. You know as far as writing music, I plan on being successful in the next five years. Hopefully have a Grammy, or two, or three, or four. It comes with patience and I pray about that all the time. I will just let God take it.

V. Ok I’m not mad at that. Sounds like a great plan.  You mentioned God; would you say he plays a big role in your music?

A. He’s everything to me. You know, I don’t really write gospel. I will though, that’s not what I talk about, but it’s a part of me. So I feel like he’s leading me through life and I feel that he gave me this gift and talent to make music. You know my mom makes music too, you know, so I feel like it just passed on to me.

V. If there was one thing you wanted people to remember you for, what would it be?

A. I want them to remember me for being true, for being honest with myself, and for being honest with them.

V. Do you have people who inspire you to make the kind of music that you make?

A. People who inspire me to make the kind of music that I make. Hmmmmm. You know, I wouldn’t say the kind of music that I make, I would say my style. People like T.I. because my style has a little hip-hop flow to it. Music Soul Child, Maxwell, its so many people, its so many people. I pull from everywhere, Faith Evans and Alicia Keys; I have a lot of her old stuff from when she first came out.

V. What are some current artists that are out right now that you would like to work with?

A. I would like to work with Music Soul Child, because that’s who I been listening to since I was younger. You know I feel like our styles are somewhat similar and I feel like I can really give him some great music.

V. Anything else you would like people to know?

A. I just want the people to know that I love what I do and I’m going to keep doing it and that I enjoy it.
